Top Elite 9 Hockey Players Announce College Commitments

Casey MutrynBen Short, and Ryan Poirier, three prominent players in the New England area, have recently made significant announcements regarding their future in hockey.

Casey Mutryn, a standout from Norwell, Mass., and a longtime Boston Advantage player, has committed to Boston College. Known for his impressive performance with St. Sebastian’s this past season, where he registered 13 goals and 42 points in 27 games, Mutryn is one of the top 2008-born players in the region. Next season, he will join the U.S. National Team Development Program's (USA NTDP) U17 team, a prestigious program for elite male hockey players under 18. He is set to join Boston College for the 2027-28 season.

Ben Short, a notable player for the Assabet Patriots and now the Winchendon School, has announced his commitment to Merrimack College. Short had a strong season with the Winchendon School, recording 19 points, and was a standout player for the 15U Assabet Patriots in the E9 Prep Showcase League, where he dominated with 59 points in 31 games.

New Hampshire Avalanche Alumni, Ryan Poirier committed to Harvard last week. Poirier was a standout last season with Kent, helping his team win the Large School title. The Salem, NH native was recruited because he sees the ice and moves the puck well. His defensive skills make him an asset on every team he plays on. Poirier was one of only two New England Natives to be select to the US U17 team that will take on Slovakia, Czecha, Germany, and Switzerland later this month. He is set to join the Crimson for the 2026-27 season.
